Essential Tools – Part 1

It’s late night already, but I cannot wait a second longer to write this article about some essential addons for firefox I’m using daily for myself. There were many situations I recommended others to check out these addons, and recently I felt the need to start writing some articles about. If you didn’t know these tools already, you’ll freak out on them.

Installing Addons in Firefox

You can search and install addons for Firefox by going to “Tools” >> “Addons”. After installing you’ll have to restart Firefox (as I use Firefox, this article is a bit focused on Firefox, but most addons are available for other browsers, too).

Firebug integrates with Firefox to put a wealth of web development tools at your fingertips while you browse. You can edit, debug, and monitor CSS, HTML, and JavaScript live in any web page. Also available as Firebug Lite for other browsers. More info:

Draw a ruler across any webpage to check the width, height, or alignment of page elements in pixels. Available for Fireforx, Chrome, Safari. More info:

Advanced Eyedropper, Color Picker, Palette Viewer and other colorful goodies for your Firefox.
More info:

So, I think this enough for today. Soon I’m going to introduce some more nice tools. There will also come articles for showing how to use the one or other plugin exactly. Next one is Firebug.

Have fun and don’t forget to go to sleep. ;)
Any thoughts or other nice stuff to show? Well, leave a comment!

  1. These are the first i always install after installing firefox.
I have noticed that some sites try to block right-click’s which is needed for firebug, so i also always ad the add-on “right Toclick” which will let you enable right click on any website. Note, this is note so you can access and steal code, but to learn how certain sites have solved certain problems, very useful.
Also i always use these and find them very usefull for monitor, debug, design, create, etc

colorSuckr – let you create color shemes from your pictures, can help for deciding on a color scheme for the new web-project/site.

FireFinder for firebug – extension to match html with css

Firestarter for firebug – gives advanced features

Iline code finder for firebug – extension for Html and Java

  2. Dear Konrad, im using the custom community theme to build a small website – all of a sudden the slideshow stopped. i have checked all the settings, they seem to be allright. can you please help rotate the posts in the slideshow

  3. @Basant, looks like a jQuery conflict, try to deactivate all plugins instead Akismet and BuddyPress (if installed) one by one and check in between, if the problem still exists.

Please use our forums for further support questions, this is the wrong place for this. Thanks!
